BUSHNELL, Fla. — A resident from The Villages is scheduled to appear in court to face child pornography charges after investigators allegedly found what appeared to be child pornography on his laptop.
66-year-old Joseph Becker, a retired New Jersey school janitor was arrested on June 5th during an online investigations led by the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office where investigators were monitoring computers in the central Florida area that were offering to distribute child pornography.
Deputies executed a search warrant on Becker’s home located on the 4000 block of Deskin Lane in The Villages where they found a Toshiba laptop that contained 24 files of what appeared to be child pornography.
Becker was charged with 24 counts of obscene material possession and was booked at the Sumter County Jail where he was then released on June 16 after posting a $120,000 bond.
Becker is now scheduled to appear before Judge William Hallman in a Sumter County courtroom for a status conference according to court records.
The hearing will be held on July 10 at 9 a.m. where parties will determine a date for trial.
