Bushnell, Fla. – A Villages resident is in critical condition after colliding with a school bus in Bushnell Friday afternoon.
The collision caused deputies and firefighters to close down a section of US Highway 301 near County Road 532 while officials worked to quickly clear the scene.
According to a Florida Highway Patrol Report, The 78-year-old Villager, who has not yet been identified pending next of kin notification, was traveling northbound on US 301 toward the intersection of County Road 532.
A Sumter County school bus was stopped at the intersection with its stoplights deployed unloading children.
A second motorcycle, driven by 78-year-old Villager Larry Caron was stopped behind the bus waiting for the bus to finish unloading the children.
The unidentified Villager failed to stop for traffic and colliding first with the other motorcycle and then with the school bus.
Once responders arrived, the unidentified Villager was transported to Ocala Regional Medical Center where he was listed in critical condition.
Larry Caron, the driver of the second motorcycle was transported to The Villages Regional Medical Center where he was listed with serious injuries.
According to the report, there was only one child and the bus driver on board during the collision. Neither of them was injured.
Charges are pending in the case which is still under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.
