Wawa Breaking Ground in Ocala

OCALA, Fla. — September 12th was an exciting day for Wawa and for many Ocala residents who have long-awaited the rumored convenience store.

Multiple Wawa locations have been confirmed and held ground breaking ceremonies Wednesday morning.

Wawa is well-known as a gas station super store with sandwiches and subs and high quality fresh coffee.

Business Insider named it “the best convenience store chain in America” as it began in the north east and has finally arrived in Florida.

Wawa headquarters are located in Philadelphia and its long history has made it a food store giant in northern states.

Wawa’s groundbreaking events included flag ceremonies from the Marion County Veteran’s Park. There were also store mascots, an assortment of branded gear for guests, and appearances from Marion County Commissioners showing support for the new chain.

Three Ocala locations including the corner of SR 40 and NE 36th Ave, SR 40 and I-75, and another on Pine Ave will now begin construction. All three locations will open in early 2019.

With these three openings the chain is planning to bring about 200 jobs to the area with two more Ocala locations on SE Maricamp Rd and near On Top of The World with more stores planned for The Villages and Belleview as the chain grows in central Florida.

Currently, the closest open location for Ocala residents is in Oxford on N US Hwy 301.
