Wedgewood Lane WalMart to Stay Open During Hurricane Matthew

THE VILLAGES – Despite other WalMart locations closing at 4:00 pm Thursday for Hurricane Matthew, the Wedgewood Lane WalMart will remain open to serve residents.

The store located at 4085 Wedgewood Lane (CR 466) in The Villages reported that they were not affected by the area WalMart Corporate offices planned to close. The Villages location will remain open through the night and Friday as well until further notice.

The WalMart locations east of Wedgewood Lane stopped allowing entrance at 3:00 pm and will be closing their doors at 4:00 pm.

A manager at the Wedgewood Lane store advised us that they just received a shipment of water around 3:00 pm but do not expect it to last long.

Bread, canned foods, batteries, and flashlights are all sold out according to the Assistant Manager.

Some supplies recommended to purchase to prepare are:

  • Campfire Grills
  • Charcoal
  • Lighter Fluid
  • Firewood
  • 5 gal. Camping Water Jugs
  • First Aid Supplies
  • Candles
  • Coolers
  • Ziploc Bags
  • Chainsaws
  • Rope
  • Tarps

If you cannot find water anywhere, it is recommended that you fill up any empty jugs, buckets, gallons, and even your bath tubs to store water. You can also fill ziploc bags with water to freeze for ice.
