WILDWOOD – The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) released a statement on Thursday announcing they will soon begin an Interchange Improvement Project to increase capacity and improve traffic operations at the I-75 interchanges with Florida’s Turnpike and State Road 44.
The $68.5 million project will include the widening of I-75 from four to six lanes between the I-75/SR 44 interchange and the I-75/Turnpike interchange, construction of a new flyover entrance ramp from SR 44 to the southbound Turnpike, construction of a new flyover exit ramp from northbound I-75 to SR 44, replacement of the flyover bridge from southbound I-75 to southbound Turnpike and I-75, and major drainage improvements.
According to Transportation Officials, crews are expected to begin work in September by cutting and removing roadside vegetation to prepare for construction which is scheduled to be completed by winter, 2019.
During the construction, officials say to expect lane closures, ramp closures, and detours which will generally take place between 9 pm and 5 am on Sunday through Thursday to minimize traffic congestion, delays, and noise disrupions. Any closures or detours will be announced in advance in the Florida Turnpike’s weekly traffic advisory.
