OCALA — A Sparr woman was pronounced dead and a 2-year-old toddler is in serious condition after a single-vehicle crash early Sunday morning according to Florida Highway Patrol reports.
Responders with the Marion County Fire Rescue team and troopers responded to the scene at approximately 1:50 a.m. where they found the toddler standing near the overturned vehicle.
According to reports, 25-year-old Jasmine Williams was traveling north on NE Jacksonville Road at excessive speeds in a 2007 Pontiac G6 with the toddler in the vehicle when the incident occurred.
Williams reportedly failed to negotiate a left curve and the vehicle left the roadway onto the grassy shoulder.
She then overcorrected back toward the road causing her to lose control of the vehicle.
The vehicle rotated and struck a concrete culvert which sent the car into the air before colliding with a wooden fence, overturning onto its roof, and striking another wooden fence and finally came to rest upside down in a pasture.
During the collision, Williams was ejected from her seat since she was not wearing her seatbelt, the report indicated.
Officials are unsure if the toddler was not restrained or if the toddler managed to remove himself from the vehicle after the accident.
Williams was transported to Ocala Regional Medical Center where she later succumbed to her injuries.
The toddler was transported to Shands UF Pediatrics Hospital where he was listed in serious condition.
Investigators are waiting on the results of blood tests to determine if alcohol was involved.
