{"id":214611,"date":"2017-08-06T20:51:32","date_gmt":"2017-08-07T00:51:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wordpress-1.tempurl.host\/?p=214611"},"modified":"2017-11-04T14:47:12","modified_gmt":"2017-11-04T18:47:12","slug":"state-attorney-no-charges-will-filed-lake-minneola-high-principal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thegraphicgeek.com\/demo-cflwire\/state-attorney-no-charges-will-filed-lake-minneola-high-principal\/","title":{"rendered":"State Attorney: No Charges Will be Filed Against Lake Minneola High Principal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>MINNEOLA, Fla. &#8211;<\/strong> The Lake Minneola High School principal will not be charged for apparently<br \/>\nmoving too slow to report an alleged inappropriate relationship between her band director<br \/>\nand a male student.<\/p>\n<p>Linda Shepherd-Miller had learned from a parent in mid-June that Jon North, one of the<br \/>\nschool\u2019s teachers and band director, possibly had a relationship with a student, according to<br \/>\na letter released Friday by Walter Forgie, supervisor of the State Attorney\u2019s Office in Lake County.<br \/>\nDue to Shepherd-Miller being the principal, school policy required her to report her suspicions<br \/>\nimmediately.<\/p>\n<p>However, she didn\u2019t report the incident to the Lake County Schools until July 18, one day<br \/>\nafter confirming the sexual relationship with North and the student, a student who initially<br \/>\nsaid he had fabricated the allegations.<\/p>\n<p>But the letter added that until July 17, the only evidence known to Shepherd-Miller was based<br \/>\nupon uncorroborated hearsay statements and copies of Facebook conversations between the<br \/>\nvictim and his friends wherein the victim explicitly said he fabricated prior statements he made<br \/>\nregarding inappropriate conduct.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is insufficient evidence to prove that Shepherd-Miller had reasonable cause to suspect child<br \/>\nabuse based solely on the report from (the parent who initially contacted her),\u201d the letter added.<br \/>\nShepherd-Miller notified the Department of Children and Families on July 19.<\/p>\n<p>The student, aged between 16 and 18, apparently had oral sex with North in a school closet.<br \/>\nNorth, 32, immediately resigned after confirming the allegations.
