GROVELAND, Fla. \u2013 An occupied Groveland home was riddled with bullets Monday night in a case believed to be connected with a shootout between two vehicles one day earlier in Clermont.<\/p>\n
Groveland police detective Jack Gunter said officers responded to the 1035 Sandhill St. home in the Cranes Landing subdivisions just after 9:30 p.m. Monday to reports of multiple shots that had been fired into the residence.<\/p>\n
Officers discovered bullet casings scattered over the streets and “many” fired bullets throughout the home.<\/p>\n
Gunter added there were two adults and two teenagers in the single family home at the time. When the first shot came into the home, he said one teen screamed “duck” and they hit the floor.<\/p>\n
“This ultimately saved their lives because they (had been) on the couch where bullets hit,” Gunter said during an interview Tuesday.<\/p>\n
\u201cLuckily no one was injured,\u201d he added in a press release.<\/p>\n
Gunter added that while Monday\u2019s shooting remained under investigation, they believe it is related to a shooting Sunday night in Clermont.\u00a0 According to a Lake County Sheriff\u2019s Office report, deputies responded to Brown Bark Trail about 7:40 p.m. Sunday, where a man said he was outside talking on the phone when he saw a pick-up truck chasing a white car.<\/p>\n
Someone in the car eventually fired shots at the truck. The witness added the truck then pulled into his driveway, a passenger stepped out and shot back at the truck.<\/p>\n
Gunter said he believes the two incidents were related due in part to there being the same vehicle description and the use of the same caliber guns.<\/p>\n
Gunter added they are asking residents in the Cranes Landing subdivisions to check their surveillance cameras for any possible suspects or vehicles from the Monday night shooting.<\/p>\n
Sgt. Fred Jones, sheriff\u2019s spokesman, said Tuesday they are still investigating the Clermont shootout.<\/p>\n
