TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –\u00a0<\/strong>Local Police Chief Robert Hicks from the Leesburg Police Department was one of three officers appointed by Governor Rick Scott to the Florida Violent Crime and Drug Control Council<\/a> on Monday.<\/p>\n

According to a press release issued by the Governor’s office, Hicks, along with Franklin\u00a0County’s Sheriff A.J. “Tony” Smith joined The Council as of October 16 and will serve terms through June 30, 2019.<\/p>\n

Another official, Martin County’s Sheriff William Snyder, who was already serving a term on The Council, was reappointed to serve another term.<\/p>\n

The Council was established in 1993 in order to financially assist local law enforcement agencies in extraordinary violent crime cases.<\/p>\n

Chief Hicks succeeds Chief Jeffrey Chudnow on The Council.<\/p>\n

Hicks received his bachelor’s\u00a0degree from Warner University and a master’s degree from Columbia Southern University. Chief Hicks is a proud veteran of the United States Army, served in several multi-national operations including the Iraqi Gulf War, and Kuwait. He also has over 24 years of law enforcement experience and has been with the Leesburg Police Department for 18 years.
