LEESBURG —<\/strong> A Leesburg Electric Department crew made its way north on Tuesday morning to assist in disaster relief efforts following Hurricane Michael.<\/p>\n

City Manager Al Minner stated, “Although the effects of natural disasters are devastating, at times like these, public power is at its best because our Mutual Aid Agreements assist other communities to restore energy quickly and safely.”<\/p>\n

The Mutual Aid Agreement was in effect last month when another Leesburg crew was sent to North Carolina following Hurricane Florence. Leesburg crews were also deployed in the past years for hurricanes Andrew, Katrina, Irene, Sandy, Hermine, and Matthew.<\/p>\n

The 8 man crew headed to the Tallahassee area with four bucket trucks, two line trucks with pole trailers, and two pickup trucks. They will team up with other municipal utilities upon arrival.<\/p>\n

With thousands out of power, crews have a lot of work ahead of them. They are expected to return home in two to four weeks.<\/p>\n

Damage from Hurricane Michael has been extensive with an anticipated recovery cost in the billions.<\/p>\n
