MICHIGAN CITY, Ind.\u00a0<\/strong>— A woman was pronounced dead Tuesday morning after reportedly being struck by a semi-truck that failed to stop.<\/p>\n

According to a press release by the Michigan City Police, officers responded to the King’s Inn on Kieffer Road at approximately 9:49 a.m. after receiving calls about what appeared to be a deceased woman in the parking lot.<\/p>\n

Upon arrival, officers discovered the woman laying on the gravel portion of the parking lot, across from the hotel’s main office.<\/p>\n

Witnesses told officers the woman was struck by what seemed to be a red tanker style semi-truck and believed the driver of the truck was a white female.<\/p>\n

Surveillance footage and witness statements show that the truck was traveling eastbound through the hotel’s parking lot toward Kieffer Road when it struck the woman.<\/p>\n

According to responders from the LaPorte County EMS team, the woman died upon impact.<\/p>\n

The driver of the truck did not stop to help render aid and continued driving south toward Interstate 94.<\/p>\n

Officials are not releasing the identity of the deceased woman until next of kin can be notified.<\/p>\n

Michigan City Police are asking anyone who may have information as to the identity or whereabouts of the person driving the truck to contact the department at (219) 874-3221.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
