A Michigan City man was arrested Wednesday after he allegedly broke into the same home twice in the same day and removed items from the home according to police.<\/p>\n
In a statement issued by the Michigan City Police Department, Sgt. Yagelski stated officers responded to a home on East Barker Avenue at Queen’s Apartments in reference to a burglary.<\/p>\n
The victim, a 71-year-old elderly woman reported that she was sleeping on her couch when she was awoken at approximately 1:40 a.m. by a man standing over her.<\/p>\n
The victim told police the man then grabbed her and they began to struggle. During the struggle, the victim managed to break free from the man and ran to a neighbor’s apartment to call the police.<\/p>\n
When officers arrived at the home, the suspect had already left the scene and had taken items from the home.<\/p>\n
While checking the home, officers found evidence that led them to believe the suspect damaged a screen and entered the home through an unlocked window.<\/p>\n
Several hours later, the victim arrived back at her home to find a window had been broken and another window was once again opened.<\/p>\n
Police once again responded to the home and with the assistance of the department’s K-9 officers were able to successfully track the suspect directly to his home.<\/p>\n
When officers knocked on the home the K-9 officers led them to, the man who answered the door matched the description of the suspect the victim had seen in her home.<\/p>\n
The suspect, then identified as 19-year-old KeJuan Harrison, was taken into custody and a search warrant was obtained to search his home.<\/p>\n
During the search, officers found the items that were reported missing from the victim’s home.<\/p>\n
Harrison was arrested and charged with burglary, however, more charges may be filed as the investigation progresses.<\/p>\n
Harries was transported to the LaPorte County Jail where he was later released after posting a bond.<\/p>\n
Fortunately, the victim was not injured during any of the incidents.<\/p>\n
