MICHIGAN CITY, Ind.\u00a0<\/strong>— Many residents and visitors packed the stadium seats at Ames Field in Michigan City Sunday night for the 58th Annual Pageant of Drums to watch marching bands from across the country compete against each other.<\/p>\n

Before the competition, our very own Michigan City High School marching band had the honor of kicking off the night with the National Anthem.<\/p>\n

The Pageant of Drums was one stop in the Drum Corps International tour where bands compete against each other in more than 100 events throughout the country.<\/p>\n

This year, Michigan City welcomed Pioneer from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Genesis from Austin, Texas, the Colts from\u00a0Dubuque, Iowa, the Blue Stars from La Crosse, Wisconsin, the Cadets from Allentown, Pennsylvania, the Boston Crusaders from Boston, Massachusetts, and The Cavaliers from Rosemont, Illinois competing in the World Class division.<\/p>\n

Also competing in the Open Class division were the Colt Cadets from Dubuque, Iowa.<\/p>\n

Each band put on amazing performances that proved their hours of practice and their passion for the music they played.<\/p>\n

In the open class, the Colt Cadets came in first place with 47.05 points.<\/p>\n

In the World Class division, Pioneer came in 7th with 49.7 points, Genesis came in 6th with 57.7 points, Colts came in 5th with 63.05 points, Blue Stars came in 4th with 65.7 points, The Cadets came in 3rd with 68.45 points, the Boston Crusaders came in 2nd with 70.5 points, and The Cavaliers came in first place with 72.2 points placing them in 20th place in the Drum Corps International’s overall competition rankings.<\/p>\n

Throughout the night, the seat in the stadium remained packed despite the unexpected thick blanket of fog that covered the field.<\/p>\n

After the competition ended, The Cavaliers performed a rendition of “Africa”<\/em> by Toto for their encore performance\u00a0and then invited all current and past marching band members to join them on the field for their version of “Over the Rainbow”\u00a0<\/em>as a gesture of their band brotherhood.<\/p>\n
