MICHIGAN CITY, Ind.\u00a0<\/strong>— Police have identified the suspects arrested after a short chase Monday evening<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Officers with the Michigan City Police Department were dispatched to the 700 block of Belden Avenue after receiving calls about three men fighting where one man reportedly had a knife.<\/p>\n

Officers Cody Washluske and Matthew Babcock arrived at the scene and saw several people outside of the home including a red Chevy Tahoe which was parked in the roadway.<\/p>\n

Before Officer Babcock was able to exit his patrol vehicle, the red Tahoe began driving in reverse\u00a0toward his patrol vehicle at a high speed ultimately striking\u00a0Babcock’s\u00a0vehicle causing severe damage and resulting in the airbags being deployed.<\/p>\n

The suspects in the Tahoe then sped off maneuvering around Officer Washluske’s vehicle toward Cleveland Avenue.<\/p>\n

Washluske initiated the pursuit which reached speeds in excess of 50 miles per hour.<\/p>\n

The Tahoe reportedly began losing control of the vehicle when the driver turned onto Cleveland Avenue and left the roadway traveling through one neighbor’s yard. The driver then managed to regain control and return to the roadway, however, continued to drive erratically through the neighborhood without stopping at stop signs or slowing down through intersections.<\/p>\n

When the Tahoe reached the intersection of Thurman Avenue and Lafayette Street, the driver lost control of the Tahoe once again, this time crashing into the AK Smith Career Center.<\/p>\n

By this time, other officers had joined the pursuit and together they managed to take the driver and passenger into custody.<\/p>\n

The driver, then identified as 28-year-old Spencer Spangler was arrested and charged with resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, operating while intoxicated causing injury, operating while intoxicated with a minor in the vehicle, leaving the scene of an accident, and reckless driving.<\/p>\n

He was transported to the LaPorte County Jail where he remains without bond.<\/p>\n

The passenger was identified as a 15-year-old girl whose name has been withheld due to her age. The passenger was not charged and was released into the custody of her parents.<\/p>\n

Officer Babcock suffered injuries to his hand during the incident as a result of Spangler crashing into his patrol vehicle.<\/p>\n
