{"id":3123,"date":"2018-06-28T10:41:46","date_gmt":"2018-06-28T15:41:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mcjournal.thegraphicgeek.com\/?p=3123"},"modified":"2018-06-28T10:41:46","modified_gmt":"2018-06-28T15:41:46","slug":"man-arrested-after-robbing-gas-station-in-michigan-city","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thegraphicgeek.com\/demo-mcj\/man-arrested-after-robbing-gas-station-in-michigan-city\/","title":{"rendered":"Man Arrested After Robbing Gas Station in Michigan City"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>MICHIGAN CITY, Ind.<\/strong> &#8212;\u00a0A man was arrested in the early hours of Thursday morning after allegedly robbing a gas station in Michigan City on Wednesday night according to police.<\/p>\n<p>Michigan City Police responded to the Speedway gas station located at 5830 Franklin Street at approximately 11:55 p.m. after receiving a call stating a robbery had just occurred.<\/p>\n<p>The clerk at the store told officers that a black male entered the store with his face disguised, &#8220;gestured of possessing a gun&#8221;, and demanded money.<\/p>\n<p>The suspect managed to leave the store on foot with a bag containing an undisclosed amount of cash.<\/p>\n<p>Michigan City and Trail Creek police officers covered the area to search for the suspect. Moments later, officers found a person matching the suspect&#8217;s description at the Garden Estates Apartment Complex.<\/p>\n<p>When officers approached the man, he fled leading officers on a foot pursuit.<\/p>\n<p>Trail Creek Deputy Nick Korepanow, chased after the suspect and at one point slipped on a patch of muddy grass where he then fell and landed on his upper right arm and shoulder.<\/p>\n<p>The suspect continued running away from Korepanow until he saw Officer Justin Frever. At that point, the suspect turned and right back toward Korepanow&#8217;s direction.<\/p>\n<p>When the suspect reached Korepanow, he too slipped and fell on the muddy grass where Korepanow, despite suffering severe pain from his fall, managed to jump on the suspect and keep him pinned down until Officer Frever\u00a0could detain him.<\/p>\n<p>The suspect, then identified as 22-year-old\u00a0Juwan Garrett, a Michigan City resident, was arrested and charged with robbery and resisting law enforcement.<\/p>\n<p>None of the employees at the gas station were injured during the incident.<\/p>\n<p>Deputy Korepanow was transported to the emergency room where he was diagnosed with a broken humerus\u00a0bone at his shoulder joint.
