MICHIGAN CITY, Ind.\u00a0<\/strong>— Michigan City residents have most likely passed the historic Barker Mansion located at the corner of Washington Street and 7th Street at one time or another and some have always wondered what the iconic building looks like inside.<\/p>\n

Residents will now have a chance to explore the nooks and crannies of the turn-of-the-century landmark during the ‘Behind the Scenes Tour’ hosted by the mansion’s caretakers on August 15.<\/p>\n

Doors will open to the public where families can browse through the building with a guide and see the wonders within the walls of the 19th century home that once belonged to the Barker family, a family known for its contributions to the communities\u00a0throughout the Midwest.<\/p>\n

The two-hour tour will guide guests through the 38 rooms that once served as living chambers for soldiers during previous wars and even as a temporary medical ward for wounded soldiers returning from the war.<\/p>\n

The final tour of the summer will begin at 7 p.m. on August 15. Tickets for the event are $15 for adults and $10 for seniors of children 15 years of age or younger.<\/p>\n

The Barker Mansion is located at 631 Washington Street. Residents interested in attending are required to register in advance on the Barker Mansion’s Eventbrite page<\/a>.<\/p>\n
