{"id":3439,"date":"2018-08-02T12:20:54","date_gmt":"2018-08-02T17:20:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mcjournal.thegraphicgeek.com\/?p=3439"},"modified":"2018-08-03T22:35:43","modified_gmt":"2018-08-04T03:35:43","slug":"michigan-city-man-pronounced-dead-after-collision-with-amtrak-train","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thegraphicgeek.com\/demo-mcj\/michigan-city-man-pronounced-dead-after-collision-with-amtrak-train\/","title":{"rendered":"Michigan City Man Pronounced Dead After Collision with Amtrak Train"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>MICHIGAN CITY, Ind.\u00a0<\/strong>&#8212; A Michigan City man was pronounced dead early Thursday morning at approximately 7:26 a.m. after colliding with an Amtrak passenger train headed for Chicago near the intersection of Eastwood and Tryon Roads according to police.<\/p>\n<p>When officers arrived at the scene they discovered a 2014 Honda Accord embedded against the front of the train with severe damage.<\/p>\n<p>During their investigations, officers determined the driver of the Honda was traveling eastbound on Tryon road when he crossed directly into the path of the train for an unknown reason.<\/p>\n<p>67-year-old William Wilkinson, a\u00a0Michigan City resident, was pronounced deceased at the scene by LaPorte County Deputy Coroner Dwayne Hogan.<\/p>\n<p>According to the report, the train which carried 198 passengers and four employees, struck the vehicle at 59 miles per hour and came to rest approximately 500 yards away from the point of impact.<\/p>\n<p>None of the passengers or crew members on board the train reported any injuries during the incident.<\/p>\n<p>The Michigan City Bus Department and Amtrak buses shuttled the passengers to a nearby South Shore train station to transport them to Chicago.<\/p>\n<p>Police stated that there were no drugs or alcohol involved in the unfortunate incident.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Update: Man identified by police as 67-year-old Michigan City resident William Wilkinson.
